About FIRST

FIRST was started in 1992 by president Dean Kamen. FIRST is an acronym for "For
Inspiration of Science and Technology". One of FIRST's major goals is to inspire and motivate
young people to pursue careers in science and technology. Each season, teams are given 6
weeks to construct a working robot that is customized to accomplish a certain task.

History and Goals

Teams consist of high school students that are partnered with teachers and engineers to
create a first hand experience in order to educate and inspire the students.
FIRST allows students to obtain information and knowledge about engineering and technology in a hands
on way. The goals of FIRST is to not only motivate students into technology based careers,
but to build the students into self confident leaders.
