FIRST Robotics Subteams Volunteer Work 2008 RESULTS Home

We Are
• A FIRST robotics team that has been in existence since 1992.
• A team that is active in both our local and FIRST communities.
• The ONLY team that has ever won two Championship Chairman's Awards, FIRST's highest honor.
We are: The X-Cats
Our Theme
WE, Not ME!!!
• "We, Not Me" symbolizes our goal to become more unified as a team, and as a community.
• We also spread the word and meaning of FIRST in our travels/community service.
• We chose this because we believe this represents the spirit of FIRST.
Our Design &
Implementation
After the game has been revealed, we brainstorm to decide what aspects of the game are required for a winning robot. Our "must haves" are supplemented by "nice to haves" in terms of robot capabilities.
Then, we determine the type of realistic mechanisms that can achieve our goals. After brainstorming and debating our design, our architecture team meets to provide sub-teams with prototyping goals that test our design.
Our amazing CAD team immediately begins to mock up our visions using AutoDesk.
The robot truly begins to come alive as we start prototyping and building it. Using this process we determine what is needed to improve our final robot.
The GAME
OVERDRIVE
The 2008 FIRST Robotics Competition game is called Overdrive. The ways to scoring are; completing laps and elevating a ball 40" in diameter over a 78" overpass. There are also bonuses for knocking the ball off the overpass at the beginning of the match and for placing the ball on the overpass at the end of the match.

Our Community
Commitment
It is extremely important to volunteer in our community. This shows dedication to our team as well as to the people in our area. Volunteering is a vital part of spreading the meaning of FIRST. Our community has given us so much, it's only fair to give back.
Our Mission
The Xerox Wilson FIRST Partnership is in support of the FIRST mission to inspire today's youth without regard to race, sex or national origin; and to create a demand among them to excel in science and technology. We are a "back to basics" team. The inspiration of the student participants on our team is our number one priority. We are building interested, intelligent members of society who get involved and participate. We are building people as much as robots. We will actively recruit students who need and want support in planning for their futures. We will strive to have the team of adults and students reflect the ethnic and gender diversity within Xerox and the Rochester City School District.
